Their disability is represented as being important in their life as he is not capable of doing things him self.
People without disabilities are represented stereotypically as being normal as they can do things the disabled person cant. The women is shown to be more powerful then the disabled boy as she has the dominant role which is challenging the stereotype.
He is represented as weak as he isnt capable of doing things himself. However he has a bit of power over his dad.
Other characters help him out with care and treat him quite well
The message the clip is trying to portray is that its hard to live with a disability but that he is a normal person.
1. He fits the following stereotypes:
pitiable or pathetic
As atmosphere
a burden
Being unable to participate in daily life to an extent
3. Examples
When the door is opened there is a tilt and a high angle is used which suggests that he is being looked down on making the audience feel pity for him.
Over the shoulder shot is used where she is giving the disabled person a drink. This shows her point of view putting the audience in her perspective suggesting that he is weak and vulnerable and that she has power over him.
Where the dad is looking up the house a low angle shot is used to show that his son is far away. As his dad is looking at the house it suggests he is concerned about his son in the position he is in as he is vulnerable.
The son is wearing casual clothes whereas the women is wearing expensive clothes. This shows that she has a higher status and more power then the disabled person which links to the stereotype that disabled person are weaker.
