Sexuality representation
In the clip the heterosexual male is shown to be dominant over the female unsure of he sexuality. Also in the clip the women is confused of her sexuality and she should deal with her feelings. The dominant ideology of heterosexual men is that they dominate women. There is also the stereotype of confusion of feelings towards someone of the same gender. This suggests that it is hard to reveal sexuality to others especially the person they have the feelings for due to the reactions they would get. The clip also suggests that the women confused of her sexuality is quite vulnerable.

Gender and Doctor Who
Camera work
At the beginning when Martha is told to kneel a high angle is used with a close up on Martha's face. This connotes that she is less powerful then the master as he is looking down on her and that she obeys his commands being more vulnerable then he is. This is stereotypical of women as they are seen to be less powerful then men. Zooming in is used where Martha is sat on the step talking to others telling them her story. This connotes that Martha is the centre of attention and is the one with the most authority as everyone else is looking at her. This is stereotypical for women to be the centre of attention.
Mise en scene
All powerful people in the clip are shown to be wearing black clothes. This connotes power and the colour black connotes seriousness. The people dressed in black all appear to have important roles throughout the extract. All the people dressed in black are serious about the tasks they are doing. This is stereotypical for important people to wear black when doing important tasks especially black suits for men. When Martha is talking to the master (villain) explaining that she and the other people she has told the story too will defeat him, his facial expression connotes shock/surprise as his lips are pursed and his eyes are wide open and keep blinking. This connotes that the man is in a vulnerable position losing his power which goes against the stereotype that men are powerful and strong. The lighting in the extract changes throughout either being dark or light or very light. An example of this in the extract is when the doctor changes back to a human from an alien. This connotes that the doctor is getting stronger and gaining power from everyone saying 'doctor'. This suggests that men fight for power over eachother and this is stereotypical.
Sound
When Martha is telling the master about her going around the world all on her own and telling the people her story the soundtrack that's being played is non-diegetic. As Martha is gaining more power the soundtrack gets louder and more dramatic. This shows the gaining of power to Martha and the loss of power from the Master connoting that women are more powerful therefore challenging the stereotype that men are more powerful than women however at the start of the soundtrack this would have appeared to be true. During the soundtrack Martha and the Master switch roles. Dialogue which is a diegetic sound is used when the master says 'the tele-porter device incase you thought i'd forgotten'. This connotes that he has the power to use short commands to instantly get what he wants and and he knows this. It also suggests that he assumes people will automatically know what he wants and by saying incase you thought i'd forgotten it portrays that he is intelligent. This is stereotypical for men to be the decision makers rather than women and also that they have more power. Diegetic dialogue is used when Martha is talking to the master and says 'but I knew what professor docerty would do' this connotes that she is more intelligent then the master which is stereotypical for women to be smarter.
Editing
When the master is watching the doctor getting stronger there is a use of cross cutting the groups of people saying 'doctor'. This connotes that the master is vastly outnumbered and that he has created a lot of enemies as even the people who he is meant to have power over are going against him. This challenges the stereotype that males and females don't necessarily work together as this part of the extract shows both genders to have common goals as both genders want to defeat the master and so they work together to achieve this. At the beginning of the extract when Martha first walks in there is an eyeline match between her and the master. When he is watching her she appears to be scared or nervous as she immediately looks away from him and around the room at other people. This connotes that women are fearful of men and in this is sometimes stereotypical however not for every women.
